Death Note Ends
For all the people out there who don't know anything about the Japanese animation
'Death Note', this aired in Japan during spring/summer 2007 and was a big success.
2007 seems to be a particularly bad year when it comes to anime, but Death Note is
different. I'm sure to buy it when it's released in the english market.
The story is about Notebooks you can write names in. Nothing special about that,
but some minutes later those people die, and there's nothing they can do about it.
As you may suspect, the people who own such books become more and more corrupted,
or, in the case of 'Kira' (our 'Hero'), they tend to get a God-complex.
The story is really complicated, and the characters are also very realistic, though
sometimes bizarre. On a scale of 1-10, I would give Death Note a 9.
Yesterday evening Death Note ended. I was not really shocked to see Kira die,
but I think it was too fast. They could as well have included three more episodes
with Kira fleeing, spreading havoc in his path.
Nevertheless, the ending was well-made. You don't see it, but Misa-San seems to
commit suicide following his death.
The storyline is closed, and a second season is not necessary in my opinion.
But Death Note has demonstrated that anime doesn't need to be the shallow fare you
get usually. Death Note was not particularly well drawn or animated, but the story
is REALLY good. I hope this is a signal for the industry to concentrate more on
storylines. Death Note's storyline is so convoluted that it's necessary to view it more
than once, but that's exactly the fun.
